Again I forgot to photograph my lunch. This time it was a tamale and half a super burrito with Al Pastor from Mexico Au Parc in South Park, San Francisco.

I finished the other half (or more like 2/3) of the burrito for dinner.

I woke up late and made some scrambled eggs as a snack and then forgot to eat lunch. For dinner I heated up some leftovers: steak, potatoes, rice, and pork ribs.

For lunch, Tina and I went to a barbecue picnic at Sandia Park in Sunnyvale (Dave invited us - one of his friends was putting it on for his church as well as others who may wish to come). We had trouble getting to the food with all the people there. I had a little Ma Po Tofu.

The other day, I ate dinner at Truya Sushi where I had my usual assortment of sushi. At the end of dinner, we were chatting with the proprietor, Scott, and somehow the subject of edible bugs came up. Scott presented me with a small bowl of boiled silkworms seasoned with sauce chili oil - a Korean dish called beondegi or bun dae gi.

What I Ate: March 21, 2008 (El Camino Mongolian BBQ, Palo Alto Four Seasons)

Lunch was Mongolian BBQ with Harold and Brent.

For dinner, Tina and I went to a Palantir event at the Palo Alto Four Seasons Hotel. I thought it was a product demo - Tina thought it was a food event (I told her it was a free dinner and also explained a little about the company but she only remembered the free dinner part). It turned out to be a recruiting event. They did show a demo of their two products both of which were extremely interesting in compelling - had I not been already working for Fanpop and on Cooking For Engineers, Palantir would definitely be on my short list.

For lunch I went to Snack Depot and had an English muffin with egg and sausage. It tasted similar to a McDonald's Sausage Egg McMuffin but a little chewier (which I think is a good thing).

I ate leftover Indian food for lunch. It was almost just as good the second day.

For dinner, I prepared a grilled rib-eye steak, grilled potatoes (red potatoes, thyme, rosemary, olive oil), and salad.

A glimpse at an upcoming article - Baby Back Ribs

Posted 16 May, 2008 at 3:52pm by Michael Chu

I haven't talked much about the preparation of articles for Cooking For Engineers in the past, but I thought this might be of interest to some. Here's a photograph of one of the setups that I used in preparing baby back ribs for smoking. This setup was for a shot demonstrating the removal of the tough membrane found on the back of the rib bones.

The Free McDonald's Southern Style Chicken Sandwich (& Sweet Tea)

Posted 15 May, 2008 at 4:06pm by Michael Chu

On Sunday, Tina and I saw that McDonald's had a new sandwich - the Southern Style Chicken. The photograph made it look like a spicy (we mistook the pickle to be a jalapeno) version of the McChicken, so we passed on it and picked up some Chicken McNuggets. Yesterday, while watching television I thought I saw (or rather heard, since I was working on the computer) a commercial for the new sandwich announcing that on May 15th you could try the sandwich for free. So, I went to McDonald's for lunch today.

After confirming that the sandwich was free, I ordered one as well as a 32 oz. Sweet Tea for $1 that I saw a big sign for outside. I haven't had their sweet tea yet, so I thought it would be fitting to try it with the Southern Style Sandwich. This was fortunate since you only get the sandwich for free if you buy a large beverage. So, $1.08 (8 cents of tax) netted me a sandwich and beverage.
