Posted 30 August, 2010 at 4:58pm by Michael Chu(Filed under: Television) 1 comment
So, the American Fall Television Season is about to begin, so I figured out which new shows to start watching (I figure most of the ones I actually like will be canceled, so I have to pick several) and wrote down which days they will be premiering so I could set up my Tivo properly.
Here are the new shows that I've decided on:
Interested
Nikita (CW) Sept 9 Th 8pm
Boardwalk Empire (HBO) Sept 19 Su 8pm
Hawaii Five-O (CBS) Sept 20 Mo 10pm
Undercovers (NBC) Sept 22 We 8pm
Outsourced (NBC) Sept 23 Th 9:30pm

Review of Samsung LN46A550P3F

Fry's Electronics just had a the Samsung LN46A550 (46-in. LCD 1080p HDTV) for $400 off. We've been using my in-laws' television for the last few years and because of their upcoming move, I've been keeping an eye on the television market. I was planning on purchasing the Vizio VO47LF from Costco for $1199, but when the Samsung TV came up at $1299, I decided to take a look at it. Shortly after running a few tests and comparing specs, I purchased the Samsung and took it home. Here's my rundown of the Samsung LN46A550 HDTV.
I use an HD DVR (the one Comcast supplies) as my primary means of watching television. I also pretty much only watch HD content. In addition, I have a Playstation 3, DVD (a cheap one that plays just about everything including DVDs that my PS3 doesn't seem to want to play), and a computer that I want hooked up. I used to have a VCR and a second DVR hooked up to the previous television, but haven't used them in so long that I don't think I'll hook it up. For audio, I connect everything through a Dolby Digital and DTS enabled surround sound receiver.
Heroes, Hiro, and Time Travel

I wrote up a soapbox article in the Heroes Spot on Fanpop today. The article goes into the potential problems I see with how they are dealing with time travel. Up until last night's episode, I felt they had dealt with time travel in an intelligent and well-thought out manner when dealing with causality, but after last night episode (which I thought was awesome in every other respect), I was a little put off by the direction they are taking time travel. In my mind, having a single timeline in a single universe and time traveling within that timeline and dealing with causality and having it work (as the series has done so far) is the Holy Grail of time travel stories.
In my Fanpop article, I discuss the three major ways time travel is implemented in literature, movies, and television and what they mean to Heroes.
