So, the American Fall Television Season is about to begin, so I figured out which new shows to start watching (I figure most of the ones I actually like will be canceled, so I have to pick several) and wrote down which days they will be premiering so I could set up my Tivo properly.

Here are the new shows that I've decided on:

What I Ate: August 28, 2010 (Nubian Queen Lola's)

Dinner: We finally made it to Nubian Queen Lola's (1815 Rosewood Avenue, Austin, TX‎ - (512) 474-5652‎). We had gone twice before, but both times she was closed. The food wasn't perfect (I would say it was good, not great) but the experience was worth it and I'll definitely go back. We started with a same cup of jambalaya. (We wanted to try the gumbo, but she didn't have any today. She suggested the jambalaya but we could eat that plus the two entrees we wanted, so she got us a cup of it.) The jambalaya was very flavorful and I could have made a meal of it. It was a bit salty, but that wasn't a problem if eaten the the sweet cornbread.

Tina had the crawfish éttoufée which I found to be a little too spicy and too salty for me.

What I Ate: August 27, 2010 (Pappasito's Cantina)

Dinner: Before going to a comedy show headlined by Iliza Shlesinger, we had dinner at nearby Pappasito's Cantina (6513 N I H 35, Austin, TX‎ - (512) 459-9214‎). We started by sharing three tamales (two pork and one chile chicken) which I enjoyed. I thought there could have been a little more corn/masa but overall it had great texture and decent flavor.

Tina had the Mexico City Chicken and Rice Soup which was too salty and tasted like the soup was made from a bouillon cube. We sent it back.

Lunch: I ate half of a Turkey Artichoke Sandwich from Panera Bread. (Only half a sandwich since I had breakfast from Burger King on the way to my monthly HOA meeting in the morning.)

What I Ate: August 24, 2010 (McDonald's)

Lunch: We grabbed a quick lunch at McDonald's. I had 10 pieces of Chicken McNuggets and a Filet-o-Fish (which was pretty much perfectly constructed - a rarity - but the fish patty was dry :( ).

Dinner: Tina made chicken marsala with fettuccine and spinach. I had precooked the chicken in a water bath, but I think that takes away from the sauce. I also didn't brine the chicken, so there was less flavor than I think was needed. The texture was great though - so I'll have to make a few more adjustments to the recipe to adapt it to sous vide cooking.

Lunch: We had breakfast food for lunch - I cooked a couple eggs in a water bath at 65°C and then fried them quickly (I like the consistency of yolks when they are cooked in a water bath but prefer whites which are fried), tater tots, and hand formed breakfast sausages I made from Dai Due bulk breakfast sausage.

Dinner: We ate at the Alamo Drafthouse during Piranha 3D (wow, anyone who says that the 3D conversion is well done must be very unobservant; conversion artifacts could be spotted every few seconds throughout the entire film - but, even so, it was a pretty decently done campy horror film). I had a Turkey Breast Sandwich (which as far as I could tell was served with tomato and field greens on ciabatta) which I really liked. I'll probably order that again the next time I'm at Alamo.
