Dinner: Take out from Tien Jin (4534 West Gate Boulevard, Austin, TX (512) 892-6699) which is one of the closest Chinese restaurants to us. We ate in the restaurant two years ago and didn't like the food, but I thought I'd give them another chance. The seafood noodle soup was pretty bad. The worst part was the inclusion of extremely iondine/bromine flavored Gulf shrimp which permeated the entire soup. Ick.

The fried rice was very poor, but better than their white rice. The broccoli beef had large chunks of beef (instead of thin planks) that was chewy (and didn't have a coating of cornstarch). The kung pao chicken was filled with Sichuan peppercorns which was very annoying. The peppercorns should be used to season the oil and removed from the dish prior to serving - tossing them into chicken, vegetables, and peanuts does not make a dish miraculously into a Sichuan dish. And the final dish of sauteed water spinach was passable.

The worst part was all this food came out to a fairly pricey bill ($50) and most of the takeout containers were only half full (half filled with white rice and half with the dish we ordered).
