What I Ate: March 8, 2010 (Ryu of Japan)

Dinner: I met up with a bunch of friends (Tina couldn't join us because she had to keep watch over Hairy who has a doggie cold) at Ryu of Japan (11101 Burnet Road, Austin, TX‎ - (512) 973-9498‎). I thought much of the food we had was delicious. The monk fish liver, oysters, and hotate (sea scallop) nigiri were my favorite dishes. The okonomiyaki is mediocre (having too much cabbage), but I don't know another place in Austin that serves it.

Lunch: We've only had Hairy for a day and we're exhausted already. I dug in the freezer for something we could heat up and eat quickly before our appointment with the veterinarian and came up with the last of the Chicken McNuggets from that time I bought a 50-pack.

Dogs are very exhausting, especially the first few months as you help them figure out your rules and expectations. I've had my new dog since last summer and I still have issues with her on walks (although she's much much better than she was when I first got her).

  • Yes, we are giving him antibiotics prescribed by the vet. She said he'll be better in a few days, nothing serious. He's sleeping a ton, definitely getting more rest than we are!

  • I had the same experience with my new dog last summer. He's adorable, BTW.

  • […] I had eaten there once before with the Fearless Critic Austin Council, but Tina missed out on that occasion because she was taking care of Hairy. I ordered some items I had before and some new ones. We […]
