Happy New Year!

Lunch: Torchy's Tacos in South Austin (4301 William Cannon Dr, Austin, TX 78749 (512)514-0767) where we tried several different tacos.
Green Chili Pork (roasted pork carnitas with green chilis, queso fresco, cilantro, onions, lime and green sauce) - our favorite last time and still my favorite. It's excellent with just a little of the salsa it's served with.

Naughty Santa (grilled shrimp & chorizo, cilantro, avocado, pickled onions & jalapenos, jack cheese, with roblano ranch sauce) - the December special taco - Tina's favorite from this visit. Excellent without any sauce - the flavors compliment each other very well. With sauce, we felt like the sauce was intruding on the main flavors.

Republican (4oz. grilled jalapeno sausage, cheese, pico de gallo, poblano ranch sauce) - the sausage was a bit dry - chewy and tough. The flavor was pretty mild - I had trouble tasting it.

Trailer Park (fried chicken, green chilis, cheese, lettuce, pice, poblano ranch sauce) - this taco had cooled off at this point and the fried chicken strip was soggy.

Chicken Fajita (grilled chicken breast, pico, cheese, grilled onion & peppers, and salsa) - the chicken was a bit dry and bland but overall it tasted like a classic fajita. Nothing special though.

Beef Fajita (grilled skirt steak, pico, cheese, grilled peppers & onion, and salsa) - Chewy, but quite flavorful beef.

The earlier tacos may have been better because we ate them while they were hot. All the tacos in the order came at once, so with six tacos, it's inevitable that some will cool down before I get to taste them. If you want to try a bunch - I'd say order two at a time and just keep getting back in line. That's what we did last time.

Dinner: We picked up food at the Me So Hungry Asian food truck parked in front of The Tiniest Bar in Texas at a little past 11pm on New Year's Eve. Tina and I each ordered a bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich) which they make with a bit of a Cuban twist (the sauce is a sweet cilantro mayonnaise) as well as shrimp spring rolls.

It was almost freezing cold (40°F) with a biting wind, so we went into the heated upstairs room of The Tiniest Bar in Texas to eat our food.
