What I Ate: May 11, 2009 (Cissi's Market)

Lunch: I made a couple quick sandwiches with cured meats, provolone, and bread. The crust of the bread had started to dry out a bit, so I sliced the harder portions off and made toasted open faced sandwiches with those pieces.

Dinner: Went to a meeting with other food writers at Cissi's Market (1400 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX‎ - (512) 225-0521‎). After driving for forty minutes to get there, I discovered that I had put down my camera to grab a bunch of other stuff (we live far enough from "civilization" that every time we go to town we have a bunch of errands to run, things to buy and return, etc.) and had left the camera at home. So, bad cell phone pictures… We started with a great gazpacho, salad with the most amazingly delicious cherry tomatoes, a crab cake, roast chicken with fingerling potatoes, and an amazing orecchiette pasta from Italy (a brand called Maestri Pastrai) prepared with basil and tomatoes. For dessert, we had doughnuts followed by cheese. Many of the ingredients were local (and wonderfully flavorful!) such as the fresh tomatoes and chicken. This meal was a great reminder why we moved to Texas. We're definitely going to go back. (We did pick up a couple bags of the Maestri Pastrai.)
