What I Ate: January 2, 2008

Day Two of documenting my meals… and day four of my illness.

For lunch, I tried one of the other ramen flavors. This time the blue one.

Unfortunately, the broth was very mild in flavor and not particularly appealing. I think I preferred the red pack from the day before better. I poached an egg in the broth to add some additional nutrients.

For the evening, I prepared a simple chicken soup using carrots, celery, chicken thighs (I usually use drumsticks, but Tina said the supermarket she went to was out of them), and lots of water. Low simmer for an hour and the meat from the thighs are ready to fall apart. This would be enough protein for several meals, so I expect you'll see more pictures of these thighs.

  • Oh man… food poisoning really sucks. There's a really tasty brand of Japanese Ramen I get in a gold pack, but I forget the name of it. Sorry that's not so helpful.

For food poisoning, only one thing works for me. It sounds extreme, but basically I don't eat for one day so my intestines have time to heal themselves. All I do is drink water and/or broth and/or gatorade. Then for the following two days I eat things like butternut squash soup and saltines. Food poisoning just sucks! I hope you get better soon.
